The business

Help people understand the numbers behind everyday business and finance questions by connecting how a spreadsheet function works, how a method turns data into an answer and a complete model they can change, with the assumptions visible and an editable workbook to take away.

Spreadsheet.co describes itself as a working library for spreadsheet thinkers that connects learning a formula, exploring a method and using a complete model. It is organised into three ways in: functions, where a visitor changes an example and sees the formula work; algorithms, which follow a sequence of calculations from data to an answer; and models, which answer a practical question. At review the library named 12 functions, four algorithms and five working models: break-even and pricing, a twelve-month cash-flow planner, loan repayments with extra payments, sales forecasting and replenishment, and project evaluation with net present value. Each model is interactive in the browser and offers a free XLSX download containing the visitor's inputs, readable formulas and instructions, laid out as Start, Inputs, Calculations, Results and Examples sheets, with no macros.

The site states its own limits. Its models calculate scenarios from the assumptions a visitor provides and do not account for every business, lender or project convention, and its terms say the outputs are mathematical scenarios, not personalised financial, investment, credit or tax advice, with no guarantee of any forecast outcome or business result. Its methodology sets out the conventions used: prices and costs exclude sales taxes, amounts use a single user-defined currency with no exchange-rate conversion, loans use a fixed nominal rate with month-end payments and exclude fees and early repayment charges, and stock replenishment is a snapshot rather than a simulation of individual arrivals. It says its examples are synthetic, that changes affecting calculations receive a new model version, and that Google Sheets import has not been verified.

Spreadsheet.co is owned and operated by Pacific Fund, as stated in its footer, on its About and contact pages and in its privacy policy and terms. The models and their workbook downloads are free and need no account. Two workbook packs, for small business planning and retail planning, are described as in development: visitors can register interest, which the terms say does not create a purchase, and prices and licence terms will be provided before any checkout becomes available. Its privacy policy says calculations, scenario comparisons and workbook generation happen in the browser, that calculator values and results are not sent to its server or to analytics, and that optional Google Analytics runs only with permission.
